Toronto, ON (December 8) As of last Friday, Ontarians are able to support their local food bank when they visit Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstore locations across the province. During the Winter Food Drive, customers are encouraged to make food or financial donations when they visit participating stores. All donations go to support local food banks and provincial hunger relief efforts.

Toronto, ON (December 2nd, 2008) A new report released today by the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) revealed that there has been an alarming increase in the number of persons turning to food banks in Ontario since last fall. Between September 2007 and September 2008, food banks in Ontario have reported an average increase of 13 per cent in the number of neighbours turning to them for support.

(August 21, 2008) An innovative campaign presented by the Royal Bank of Canada, was launched today at the Kingston Public Market by the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB). The Buy Local, Share Local campaign is designed to increase the sales and donations of local food in Ontario to support our neighbours, our environment and our local economy. The goal for this first-ever campaign is to raise 100,000 pounds of fresh, local food for food banks across the province this harvest season.

(August 19, 2008) The Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) released a new report today, entitled Our Choice for a Better Ontario, in response to a call for submissions from the provincial government's Cabinet Committee on Poverty Reduction. The report sets a goal of cutting poverty in half by 2020 through a renewed investment by the federal and provincial governments.

(June 26, 2008) A new report released today at Queen's Park by the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) revealed that the alarming rise in food, gasoline, and energy prices are beginning to affect low-income families and food banks across the province.

(July 29th, 2008) The Ontario Dairy Council (ODC) and StormFisher Biogas, an Ontario-based renewable energy company, have created a partnershipn that will see the non-edible by-products from the production of milk, cheese and yogurt turned into renewable energy. The partnership was struck as part of the Plan Zero program, which means that a portion of revenue from the sale of this renewable energy will go to the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB).

(My 31st, 2008) The Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) is delighted to announce one of the largest single donations of meat in the organization's history. The overwhelming donation of over 57,000 pounds of meatloaf was prepared specifically for food banks in Ontario by The Meat Factory (TMF), a local food company that has been serving up award-winning fresh and fully prepared meats for more than 25 years.

(March 25th, 2008) The Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) welcomes the provincial government’s next steps towards poverty reduction in today’s budget, but calls on the government to make giant leaps by the end of this year.

(March 17, 2008) The Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) welcomes the provincial government's morning announcement of an initial downpayment on a poverty reduction plan with an up-front investment in dental care, affordable housing, and student nutrition.

(January 31, 2008) The Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) and StormFisher Biogas, an Ontario-based renewable energy utility, have joined forces to launch Plan Zero, a province-wide social enterprise that will generate renewable electricity from food industry surplus and by-products that are destined for landfills.
